LREMC Honors Youth at Awards Luncheon

Friday | May 27, 2022
All News

Lumbee River EMC (LREMC) hosted its 2022 Youth Program Awards Luncheon on May 24, 2022, to honor this year's scholarship recipients and Youth Tour representative. LREMC Board of Directors and employees greeted the recipients and their guests. LREMC Interim President & CEO Randall Jones gave remarks and presented the awards.

As part of Lumbee River EMC's commitment to our community, LREMC established a scholarship program over 30 years ago to help students reach their educational goals. Each year, the coop awards over $40,000 to high school seniors entering college in the fall. LREMC also sponsors a student to attend the Youth Tour to Washington. Students learn about the capital and how the government operates and visit cultural sights in Washington DC. Unfortunately, due to Covid-19 restrictions, the tour was held virtually last year. Currently, the plan is to resume in person this summer. It promises to be an excellent experience for attendees.

Concern for the community is one of the seven cooperative principles. Investing in the educational opportunities for our youth is a direct investment in the future of our community. "Education is the key to success," Jones said. "Students need to pursue every educational opportunity available, and we are happy to help."\

Congratulations to our 2022 Award Recipients
