Lumbee River EMC's Energy Services department partnered with Thomas Built Buses to host an electric school bus tour at its High Point, NC facilities. Representatives from Robeson County Schools, Moore County Schools, and the Lumbee Tribe participated in the event. The group received a comprehensive tour of the facility and discussed administrative issues, funding availability, and technical aspects of electric buses.
The transition to electric buses offers several substantial benefits, including reduced emissions and noise pollution, lower maintenance costs, and decreased operational expenses over the lifespan of the bus. The reduction in emissions is particularly significant, as diesel exhaust has well-documented health risks, including severe physical health issues and negative impacts on cognitive development.
"Lumbee River EMC is dedicated to enhancing the well-being of the communities we serve and is excited to help organize this opportunity for our constituents," said Misha Melvin, Director of Energy Services.
