Two local students had the opportunity of a lifetime this summer, training with athletes and coaches from some of the nation’s top college basketball programs. Their experiences were made possible through sports camp scholarships provided by Lumbee River EMC as part of the Touchstone Energy Cooperatives network.
Bristol Jacobs attended the Wolfpack Women’s Basketball Camp at NC State University in Raleigh, led by head coach Wes Moore. Christian Hagan participated in the Carolina Basketball School at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, under the direction of head coach Hubert Davis.
Bristol and Christian joined over 50 scholarship recipients from electric cooperatives across the state. During the camps, participants stayed in campus dorms and experienced college life while receiving direct coaching from college athletes and staff. In addition to improving their basketball techniques, campers also focused on leadership, communication, and teamwork skills that extend beyond the court.
“We’re honored to support programs that give young people hands-on experiences with leadership, athletics, and college life,” said Tyler Oxendine, Community Relations Specialist. “It’s incredibly rewarding to see students from our community take part in something so impactful.”
Each year, Lumbee River EMC offers Touchstone Energy Sports Camp scholarships to support local youth and encourage educational and personal growth. Congratulations to Bristol Jacobs and Christian Hagan for earning these scholarships and representing Lumbee River EMC this summer.
