As part of Lumbee River EMC's ongoing commitment to safety, we are excited to share a significant enhancement to our fleet—the addition of Emergency Vehicle Safety Lighting. This upgrade includes caution/warning devices, LED lightbars, and amber/white beacon lights for vehicles and trailers.
Our dedicated team works tirelessly in various weather conditions and terrain to ensure a reliable power supply for our community. Employees informed leadership that their vehicles' flashing strobe and hazard lights were very hard for them and other motorists to see when working at night, especially during inclement weather.
Emergency Vehicle Safety Lighting significantly improves visibility during challenging work conditions. These powerful lights illuminate the surroundings, allowing our teams to navigate through obstacles with precision and avoid potential hazards.
"By investing in these lights, we are providing an added layer of protection for our employees," said Mark Walters, director of corporate safety. "Employees love the upgrades and additional lighting. It has been a great benefit and made such a huge difference."
In January 2002, the state's Move Over law took effect, requiring motorists to approach cautiously when an emergency vehicle is stopped on the shoulder of the roadway with its lights flashing. Motorists must slow down while maintaining a safe speed and change lanes away from the emergency vehicle if they can do so safely.
LREMC installed additional hazard notifications to warn other road users of the emergency vehicle. This notification helps drivers and pedestrians take the necessary safety and preventative measures to maintain a safer work zone. The advantages of off-road lights extend beyond safety; they also play a vital role in boosting operational efficiency.
This improvement translates into quicker response times and enhanced restoration efforts during outages. By investing in cutting-edge technology, our operations can provide more reliable service to our members. "When our team can see better, they can work more safely and effectively," said Matt Epps, vice president of engineering and operations.
At Lumbee River EMC, we continually strive to adopt innovative solutions that prioritize safety. We are fortifying our commitment to minimizing downtime and maximizing the reliability of your electric service. Adding off-road lights to our trucks is just one example of our dedication to delivering exceptional service.
