Lumbee River EMC Linemen Ronald Oxendine and Stacey Evers and Communication Specialist David Spencer attended Union Elementary School Career Day 2022 in Rowland, NC. Oxendine and Evers demonstrated some of the Personal Protective Equipment linemen use to handle power lines safely. They stressed the importance of not playing near power lines. If children see a downed line, they should stay away and contact an adult.
It takes various people with various skills and expertise to provide electricity and service to LREMC’s 54,000 members. “It’s never too early for children to start thinking about how they want to impact our communities in the future,” Spencer said. “These moments will leave lasting impressions on them as they decide what careers to pursue when they are older.”
Union Elementary School is the home of the Eagles, where approximately 444 students attend. Many businesses attended and shared information with the students about what their organizations do to make our communities great places to live. Students experienced hands-on learning activities and exposure to several career paths. Presenters shared a wealth of knowledge with the students.
Ruby Hunt Locklear, the School Counselor, thanked the group of presenters for giving the students an incredible experience. “We had a successful Career Day, and our students gained so much knowledge,” Locklear said. “It takes a village, and we’re so appreciative of your dedication to our school and community.”
