Lumbee River EMC held its annual Pole Top Rescue event on April 23, an important part of our ongoing commitment to safety and preparedness. Each year, our linemen participate in this internal event facilitated by the co-op’s safety department to demonstrate their ability to respond quickly and effectively to emergency situations in the field.
During the event, linemen simulated rescuing an injured coworker from atop a utility pole, showcasing the skills, strength and focus required to perform a successful rescue. Although we hope such emergencies never occur, it is critical that our crews remain ready to act without hesitation.
Each lineman were required to complete the rescue in under 5 minutes or repeat the certification. When asked why it is so critical to act quickly, one lineman explained that in an emergency, every second counts. If a victim is not brought down and given CPR under 5 minutes, they risk organ damage or an even worse outcome.
The Pole Top Rescue event not only reinforces essential safety procedures but also highlights the professionalism and dedication of our team. We are proud of our linemen and safety department for their commitment to excellence in serving our members and protecting each other.
